CARE - Cities. Action. Research and Education - 20th to 22nd November 2019 - TU Wien

In the course of the TU Wien + KTH Visiting Professorship Program in Urban Studies, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Culture and Public Space at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning of TU Wien, Austria and the Centre for the Future of Places at KTH Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm, Sweden invite participation in the International Urban Studies Conference on CARE Cities, Action, Research and Education. With the focus on action, research and education, the conference will explore mutually formative relations between cities, urban societies, and care. We aim to discuss ambivalences inherent to care in regard to achieved progresses and ongoing struggles as well as to reflect on the power of caring practices in shaping solidary urban presents and futures. The conference will pursue a more systematic integration of a plurality of empirical, methodological, theoretical and ethical approaches to care in urban studies, and will embrace different disciplinary perspectives, including social sciences, humanities and the spatial arts. Including keynotes by Katherine McKinnon (La Trobe University, Australia), Ali Madanipour (University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK) and Fran Tonkiss (London School of Economics, UK). Program at a glance The conference will feature keynote lectures, paper presentations, an evening reception at TUtheSkyLounge featuring DJ Cold aus Gold, a student poster price award, and walks and talks with activists, collectives, artists and urban researchers in different neighborhoods in Vienna. Free entry!

To register for the conference, please send an email to skuor_conference2019@list.tuwien.ac.at, stating your name and affiliation. More information.
