Maria Oikonomou
PhD Candidate

Maria Oikonomou holds a Diploma of Architecture from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.) and a M.Sc. in Urban Design from the Technical University of Berlin. She is currently a Ph.D. Candidate at the Department of Urban Planning and Regional Development, School of Architecture at the A.U.Th. and a fellow of IKY Fellowship of Excellence for Postgraduate Studies in Greece - Siemens Program (2012 - 2016). The title of her current study is "Urban block. Evolution and Dynamics”. She has working experience in architecture offices in Greece and Austria and she participated in research programs and intensive workshops in Germany and in Greece. Since September 2017 Maria has been an external teaching assistant at the Institute of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture of TU Wien in Austria. Her research interests focus on urban morphology and morphogenesis, production and evolution processes of cities and dynamics of urban space.
