Matina Kapsali
Postdoctoral Researcher

Dr Matina Kapsali is an urban geographer and planner. She is currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher (State Scholarships Foundation Fellow), exploring the private management of public space in Athens during the ongoing crisis (2020-2022). She is also an Adjunct Lecturer in the School of Architecture of the University of Ioannina (academic year 2020-2021). 

She studied Architecture in AUTh and she holds an MSC on Global Urban Development and Planning from the University of Manchester. In 2019, she completed her PhD with Distinction in the School of Architecture, AUTh as a State Scholarships Foundation Fellow. Her thesis was entitled “The politics of urban commons: Participatory urbanism in Thessaloniki during the 2010 crisis”. 

She has a rich research experience in multiple institutions across Europe (University of Vienna. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Manchester). She also has a wide range of teaching experiences, in the fields of architecture, urban and spatial planning and urban geography in various Greek universities as well as the Technical University of Vienna (Austria). She has published in international peer-reviewed journals and has participated in several international conferences.
